Two Arkansas law enforcement officers have been suspended, and another placed on administrative leave, after video of a violent arrest Sunday was captured and released by a bystander.

Two Arkansas officers with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and one with the Mulberry Police Department are under investigation for their roles in a violent arrest Sunday outside of a convenience store.

The video captured by a bystander picks up with the three Arkansas officers pinning down a suspect with violent punches to the head, knees to the lower body, an officer placing his body weight on the suspect’s head while it’s on the pavement, and knees to the head.

At one point an officer even grabs the suspect’s head by his hair and slams it against the pavement.

The suspect is 27-year-old Randal Worcester, who allegedly threatened a store clerk at a nearby gas station in Alma, Arkansas. According to 4029News, the clerk called the police, who issued a “be on the lookout,” for the suspect.

Crawford County Sheriff Jimmy Damante said Worcester was spotted by a deputy at a nearby convenience store and was initially cooperative with officers. Then Damante claims the suspect turned violent and tried attacking officers.

Worcester was arrested and charged with second degree battery, resisting arrest, refusal to submit, possessing an instrument of crime, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening, and second degree assault. He’s being held on $15,000 bond.

In a Facebook post, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said they have requested the investigation into the officer’s use of force be turned over to the Arkansas State Police.

“In reference to the video circulating social media involving two Crawford County Deputies, we have requested that Arkansas State Police conduct the investigation and the Deputies have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. I hold all my employees accountable for their actions and will take appropriate measures in this matter,” the post said.

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson implied Sunday night that the Arkansas State Police would be investigating the arrest.

I have spoken with Col. Bill Bryant of the Arkansas State Police and the local arrest incident in Crawford County will be investigated pursuant to the video evidence and the request of the prosecuting attorney.
